A Hinesville man was arrested during a routine traffic stop Sunday in Ludowici and charged with trafficking cocaine.
Ludowici Police Officer Phillip Bohannon said he saw a Chevrolet truck with a cracked windshield about 4:45 p.m. and pulled the truck over. Bohannon reported the driver, Romod Samuel Mickel, 29, avoided eye contact and appeared nervous. Bohannon also said Mickel was talking on a cell phone, informing the person on the line that he had been stopped and where he had been pulled over.
The officer asked the suspect if he had anything illegal in his truck. Mickel said no, but Bohannon asked for consent to search the truck anyway. Mickel reportedly said, “Go ahead.”
Bohannon said he found a clear bag with a white powder in it and suspected the substance was cocaine. Bohannon requested another officer for assistance and arrested Mickel. The officer said the suspect had 28.6 grams of cocaine.
The suspect went before Long County Magistrate Judge Marie Middleton on Monday and was denied bond. Mickel currently is in the Ludowici jail.
