According to Hinesville Police Chief of Detectives Thomas Cribbs a suspect was arrested in Hinesville concerning a kidnapping case that began is Savannah, Thursday.
Jalani Battle, 35, was arrested without incident, Cribbs said.
He said his department received a call from the Savannah-Chatham Police Department asking for assistance watching a home in the 300 block of Nottingham Drive in Nottingham Village.
“We had MACE agents and officers from my department keep the home under surveillance until we could determine the woman was being held there,” Cribbs said.
While the single-story home was being watched a man who was staying there left and began walking on Courtland Drive, where he was apprehended. At the time the man was being arrested, the woman, who has not been identified, freed herself from her bonds and ran to a neighboring house. Not finding anyone there, she ran to another home and the resident called 911.
Cribbs said local officers were acting to help the woman as the resident called 911.
Cribbs said the woman was visibly upset and hysterical, but appeared to be unhurt.
Cribbs said a warrant had been executed shortly before midnight Friday to search the residence for evidence.
Two other men were arrested in Chatham County in connection with the case.
Cribbs would not discuss what led to the woman’s kidnapping and deferred all questions to the Savannah Chatham County Police. It had not commented on the case by Saturday evening, however.
