Three cars stolen in one night
crimescenetape

One determined alleged car thief was busy Dec. 29, stealing vehicles from three different locations in Long County and Ludowici.
Long County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Nickey Anderson said that the thief stole a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, and a Chevrolet pickup all on the same day. He said that as deputies were responding to one of the calls, they observed a man driving erratically on South Macon Street. Anderson said they began to pursue him, but he sped into the parking lot of IGA grocery store in Ludowici. The man then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Anderson said that sheriff’s deputies and Ludowici Police Department officers attempted to locate the man but were unable to. He said that the investigation uncovered that the same man had stolen all three vehicles. The captain said all of the stolen vehicles have been recovered. However, the alleged thief was on the loose as of Thursday.
Anyone with information on any of the thefts is asked to contact either the sheriff’s office at 545-2118 or the LPD at 545-2222.
In a separate incident, LPD Chief Robert Poppell said that on Dec. 28, one of his officers pulled over Ludowici resident Marilyn Balsinger, 36, for driving with a suspended license. He said that Balsinger initially did not stop, but eventually pulled into the parking lot of a local church.
When her vehicle came to a stop, Poppell said, Allenhurst resident Travis Blocker, 34, fled from the vehicle on foot. The LPD and sheriff’s office began searching for the man and found him under a bed at a Ludowici motel.
It also was learned that the room he was found in was rented by Balsinger. She was charged with driving with a suspended license, and Blocker was charged with obstruction of a law-enforcement officer.
