Tips lead to Ludowici arrests
crime scene

Police Chief Robert Poppell said officers made an arrest after hearing about an Oct. 4 robbery on South Macon Street.
After investigating, officers found Wayne County resident Terry Lee in possession of jewelry taken from the residence. He said Lee also had morphine and Xanax with her.
Lee was arrested and charged with theft by taking and possession of prescription pills out of an original container.
Earlier, Poppell said that on Sept. 26 a citizen reported a vehicle swerving all over Highway 301 as it was heading into Ludowici. Poppell said an officer stopped the vehicle and allegedly smelled alcohol as he talked to the driver, Long County resident Jameson Thomas. He allegedly failed a field sobriety test.
The chief said Thomas was arrested and charged with DUI and having an open container.
Poppell said that on Oct. 7 a look-out was placed on a Ford Expedition after a witness reported the vehicle driving over the lines on South McDonald Street. An officer spotted the SUV and pulled it over. The driver was allegedly Long County resident Rosa Brewer.
Poppell said the officer also smelled alcohol and Brewer showed signs of being under the influence alcohol or drugs. Poppell said Brewer failed a preliminary breath test, she was then taken to the police department and charged with DUI and failing to maintain a lane.
Poppell said he appreciates tips from citizens. He said anonymous tips are kept in confidential.
The chief said investigators are asking for information about an Oct. 6 break-in at the Simple Seven convenience store on Highway 84.  He said someone smashed the front door and tried to pry the cash register open. Poppell said an officer reported to the scene, but no one was found.
Anyone with information on this break-in can call 545-2222.
