Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating the death of a roofing company employee who fell through a skylight of a warehouse Wednesday.

Joseph Martin, 19, of Richmond Hill, died after being transported to a hospital following the incident at National Gypsum Co. on Brampton Road.

West Chatham Precinct Patrol officers responded to the business at 2 p.m. after being advised that Martin and a co-worker were on the roof when he stepped on a thin fiberglass covering that allowed sunlight into the warehouse and fell through it. He was attempting to secure himself to a safety line at the time.

The Occupational Safety Hazard Administration has been advised of the death.
