To the relief of motorists, Hinesville City Council members voted down red light camera system yesterday at their meeting.
The cameras would have been placed at busy intersections in the city to document and ticket drivers who were running red lights.
In a surprise decision, four out of the five councilmen rejected the proposal, while Steve Troha was the only one to vote for it.
Until the meeting, councilmen Charles Frasier and Jack Shuman said they were undecided, but voted no, matching votes of councilmen David Anderson and Kenneth Shaw.
When the ordinance came up on the agenda, an exasperated Troha had to petition his peers for a second his motion so they could vote.
The motion was seconded by Shuman, and the rejection quickly followed.
