According to Long County Sheriff Cecil Nobles, on Tuesday at around 12:30 p.m. on Highway 301 North just outside of Ludowici, a routine vehicle safety check, by Deputies Jimmy Middleton and Codie Futch resulted in two arrests
Long/Liberty MACE Investigator Robert Hughes said while doing the safety check, officers smelled what they thought was marijuana. A drug dog was used to check the outside of the vehicle and alerted officers to the possibility of drugs in the car.
Hughes said marijuana residue was found on the driver’s side floorboard. The driver, Sam Edwards of Ludowici, was then charged with possession of marijuana, less than one ounce. Officers then searched Edwards and found a plastic bag of marijuana on him. Edwards was also charged with his vehicle having an illegal window tint.
A passenger in the vehicle, Levi Crawford also of Ludowici, was found to have two small bags of marijuana in his fishing tackle box. According to Hughes, Crawford admitted the bags were his. He too was charged with possession of marijuana, less than one ounce.
Both men were arrested and detained at the Long County Sheriff’s Department.
