The Long County Blue Tide Super Smash Bros Ultimate team advanced to the second round of the state playoffs for the fourth season in a row. They took on the Adairsville Tigers in the first round on Wednesday, April 16 and came away with a 3-0 victory.

Patrick McClennon was up first and took on a Joke main with his Pokemon Trainer. He quickly took a 3-1 lead in the first game after taking 135 damage before taking out his opponent’s first stock but only taking nine damage before taking out another stock.

He won the first game 2-0 and was out to another hot start in the second game as he took 125 damage before losing a stock and was up 3-1. He won the second game 2-0 to win the set 2-0 and give his team a 1-0 lead.

Deron Cummings was up next and took on Captain Falcon using King Dedede. He fell behind early in the first game and ended up falling 1-0 in the first game.

However, he turned his luck around as he went on consecutive 1-0 wins in the next two games to win the set 2-1.

Ben Stokes had a chance to give Splash Smash their first 3-0 victory since March 5. Things got off to a good start as he won the first game 1-0 using Steve against Kazuya.

Stokes took a 2-1 lead in the second game before dropping his last two stocks to lose the second game. He went to a third game to decide the set and he pulled out the 1-0 win to give his team the 3-0 match victory.

Splash Smash moves to 6-3 on the season and will now take on the second-ranked Johnson Atomsmashers in the second round on Monday, April 21. A win would put them in the quarterfinals for the third straight season and fourth time in seven seasons.
