The memory book is filling up with names of people wishing to pay tribute and last respects to a country music and entertainment legend.

Carter Funeral Home Oglethorpe Chapel has set up that memory book and plans to send it to the Imagination Library, established by the late Dolly Parton. Parton died August 25 at the age of 80 and the acclaimed singer/ songwriter/actress left an impact across several generations.

Funeral director Andy Carter recalled his father and grandfather setting up a similar memory book after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and sending it to the 9/11 Museum.

“With Dolly being such an American icon, it would be something to nice to have from Hinesville, Midway and Fort Stewart,” he said. “It’s a thank you from the community that has come together during her passing.”

Many of the signatures in the book are from Fort Stewart soldiers and family members, Carter said. They’ve also entered the names of many people who have moved away from Liberty County but wanted to sign it.

Carter said they may take signatures until September 7. “It’s great to see Liberty County coming together during this time,” he added
