Belle of military ball is all hyped up

It started out as a tiny thought buried deep in my subconscious just over three years ago. Over time it evolved into a dream, then a deep-seeded desire.
Many days passed and opportunities were missed. For years my hopes were just that — hopes. I began to feel as if maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. But I’m finally going to a military ball.
OK, so maybe it’s not going to be the huge Cinderella fairy tale event I’ve built it up to be in my head. Maybe I’ll even spend the whole evening freaking out because I’ve never been so far from my daughter or apart from her for so long. Maybe my dress is one I picked up at a garage sale for seven dollars (but it still had the tags on) and maybe my post-pregnancy body is not quite ready for high heels so I’ll be a little wobbly, but I can’t help but shiver with excitement every time I think of this event.
What little girl doesn’t dream of going to a ball someday? I’ll admit that I’ve had my fair share of formal events in the past, but this one takes the cake — at least it does in my imagination.
So this Saturday when Josh and I, along with many other military personnel and their dates, head to Savannah for a little dress up, dinner and dancing. I’ll be the giddy one in red, psyched to finally have her fairy tale dreams come true.
Well, I’ll either be that one or I’ll be the one pathetically begging her not-so-keen-on-dancing husband to pretty please just give her one dance before they rush home early to pick up their 3-month-old baby. Either way, it will be a dream come true for me.
