Consider donating to United Way

The Liberty County branch of the United Way of the Coastal Empire is in the midst of its annual fundraising drive, meaning several local non-profit organizations are looking to the community again for much-needed support.
Director Leah Poole and Kim Thomas, campaign chairwoman, are canvassing the county, spreading the word about the United Way and telling potential donors what their contributions mean to the community.
During a recent visit to the Coastal Courier, Poole and Thomas noted the United Way agencies, such as Manna House, the Tri-County Protective Agency, the Boy and Girl Scouts, and the St. James Community Center, provide many essential programs.
Such programs include services for people of all ages and backgrounds, including senior citizens living on fixed incomes, children and families. There are programs that lend assistance to the disabled, crime victims and people who have suffered through a disaster. There are programs that aid the hungry, military families and people who have learning disabilities.
And, although the Liberty County United Way is now a part of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, Poole pointed out 100 percent of the money donated in Liberty County stays here and funds the agencies’ programs — not their payrolls or general expenses.
If that wasn’t reason enough to make a donation, there’s an added incentive — the chance to win a new GMC  truck.
To qualify for the Critz GMC Truck Giveaway, simply fill out the provided form and turn it in to your company’s UW campaign chairperson. You do not have to donate to enter.
Those who choose to contribute to the United Way can donate on a one-time basis or opt for a payroll deduction and help their community throughout the year.
