Many local businesses work every day to make our shopping and business experiences pleasures by creating and maintaining attractive locations.
Join us this month in recognizing some of these attractive local businesses by nominating them for our quarterly Win-dex Awards.  Nominations for this quarter’s awards will be accepted through Sept. 30. This program is our way of recognizing attractive businesses in our community.  
These businesses are run by people who have figured out that looking good makes a statement about the kind of businesses they are. It is good business to be an attractive property. It brings in more customers and helps create a positive environment for those who work there.
The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Win-dex Awards recognition program with Keep Liberty Beautiful to recognize businesses in the community that make that extra effort to keep their businesses attractive and inviting. This award reminds all of us about how important appearances are for a healthy community.
Each quarter we select two winners from your nominations. The brief nomination form is simple, but here are some things to look for:
• a clean and litter-free exterior
• a well-maintained landscape
• an attractive building exterior that’s not in need of repair
• a mowed and litter-free frontage property, clean and maintained sidewalks and parking areas that are free of cigarette butts (this is litter, too
• attractive plantings decorating the exterior?
• recent upgrades or renovations, which can be a simple paint job or a full scale renovation or new building.
• an inviting entryway
• Do the efforts of this business help improve an area in our community?
• Is the business a good citizen that works to maintain the roadway and the right of way?
• other reasons that make this business a standout

Please note that the reason for nominating a business is a crucial part of the judging of the awards, so make sure you fully explain why this business is deserving of recognition. Awards will be announced in mid-October during the chamber’s Progress through People Luncheon.
These attractive businesses are doing their parts to create an inviting community. But that responsibility does not lie solely with our business community. All of us as citizens of Liberty County can — and should — help improve the appearance of our homes and yards, streets, neighborhoods, schools and churches.
We all benefit from a clean and attractive county. Do your part, too.
