Dear Editor,
Georgia is ranked 10th highest in the U.S. of women murdered by men, according to the National Coalition Against Violence. These horrific statistics hit entirely too close to home last week and shocked the Greater Liberty community.
The Tri-County Protective Agency (TCPA) works diligently to serve the victims and survivors of domestic violence, and we send our deepest condolences to the families and the community. We are extremely saddened by this tragedy and truly wish these individuals would not have slipped through the cracks and this heartbreaking occurrence could have been prevented.
Break the silence and stop the violence! If you or any one you know is experiencing domestic violence, please don’t hesitate — reach out to our local domestic violence (DV) agency located here in Liberty County. The TCPA operates a 24-hour crisis line and a 12-bed DV shelter for both men and women needing support, sanctuary and resources to flee domestic violence. The TCPA serves Liberty, Long, Bryan, Evans and Tattnall counties. To contact the TCPA, please call (912) 368-- 8668 or (800) 33-HAVEN, email info@tcprotectiveagency.org, or visit www.tc-protectiveagency.org/ for more information.
Additionally, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is in October and TCPA will be hosting a candlelight vigil to remember and honor the victims of domestic violence. We welcome the families, survivors and community to attend and support the victims of domestic violence. The date will be released closer to the event.
