Nominate businesses for Win-dex Award
Keep Liberty Beautiful

This is the last week that Keep Liberty Beautiful can accept nominations for this quarter’s Win-dex Awards. The awards are our way of recognizing attractive businesses in Liberty County. KLB partners with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce to honor those who go the extra mile to make their properties attractive, clean and inviting. We will accept nominations through March 31.
Winners will be announced at the chamber’s Progress through People Luncheon on April 21. Quarterly award winners receive wall plaques and signs touting their dedication to cleanliness. The signs are displayed at the winning businesses until next quarter’s winners are announced. This program has recognized 24 businesses since it began in 2008.
Some of the commonly asked questions I get are:
• Why is it named the Win-dex Award?
Well, that’s a good question. We wanted a unique name and I think we have one. We decided the winning businesses should be so clean, so attractive and so litter-free that they would exhibit a “streak-free shine.” If you don’t do much house cleaning, the catch phrase probably doesn’t mean anything to you. But those of us who have cleaned windows, counters and other household surfaces know what product promises to deliver that streak-free shine — Win-dex!
• Does the business have to be a chamber member?
No. Of course, we hope that all businesses will realize the value of joining the local chamber of Ccommerce, but for this award, we want to make sure that any business that makes an effort to look its very best has the opportunity to be recognized.
• How many awards will be given out?
Each quarter we give out two awards — one for a larger business and one for a smaller business. We want to make sure everyone has a chance to win. The size of the business does not matter.
• Can I nominate my own workplace?
Sure. If you own or work at a business that is attractive, then let the world know. Nominate your company in today.
• What kind of information is considered for the award?
The nomination form is simple. Of course, we ask for the name and a description of the nominated business. Anyone who nominates a business also should include his or her name and contact information in case KLB has questions or needs more details. Nominators also must state why they feel a business is worthy of the award. Your reason for nominating a business is a crucial part of the judging, so make sure you explain why your favorite business deserves recognition.
• How do I nominate a business?
Nomination forms are available from Keep Liberty Beautiful or at the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce office on Oglethorpe Highway. Anyone who needs a form can call KLB at 880-4888 or the chamber at 368-4445 or email klcb@libertycountyga.com. Nominators also can mail their forms to P.O. Box 829, Hinesville, GA 31310 or faxed them to 880-4777.
Business owners and managers have told me they really appreciate being recognized for their efforts. They deserve this honor because attractive businesses make our whole county look good to visitors, local residents and industries interested in moving here. It’s always pleasant to shop and to conduct business in clean and inviting locations. Let’s say thank you to all those attractive businesses. Your vote counts so get it in by March 31.
And to you local businesses, civic groups, youth groups and church groups: what else can you do to make our whole county more attractive? Volunteer with one of the many Great American Cleanup events coming up in the next several weeks!
All volunteers will receive official Great American Cleanup T-shirts. KLB provides all the supplies and water for cleanup efforts. City cleanups are followed by a volunteer-appreciation picnic. Please register ahead so we can make sure we have enough supplies and food at each location.
For information or to volunteer, call KLB at 880-4888 or email klcb@coastalnow.net.
Please participate; green starts here and it really does start with you.
