Editor, This is an open letter to the president of the United States.
Mr. President,
I’m not a representative from South Carolina or any other state. I’m just an old, hard-working, retired Army sergeant who served his country for 20 years in war and peace.
Yesterday, I received my retired pay statement and, to my utter surprise, my federal withholding tax went up to $36.41.
Mr. President, I don’t make $250,000 a year. I don’t make $150,000 a year. I don’t even make $100,000 a year.
Mr. President, you lied to me! Remember what you promised. We deserve an explanation, Mr. President.
P.S. There has been no cost-of-living increase for two years for military retirees or Social Security!
