Thanks for successful Veterans Salute fundraiser
Letter to the editor

Editor, Hinesville Military Affairs Committee’s second Veterans Salute was Nov. 1 at Bryant Commons, 438 West Oglethorpe Highway. It was a cold and windy day, but that did not stop or hinder our spirit.
Now that the event was a success, it’s time to say “thanks” to a few people. Thanks to all of you for the work you do for the Military Affairs Committee. We appreciate the time you spent volunteering for this important committee. A special thanks to the Youth Challenge students for putting up tents, moving tables and chairs, and doing whatever we asked them to do. We extend thanks and appreciation to all the supporters of logistics, publicity and the many who sold tickets. Special thanks also go out to 3rd Infantry Division Band, Maj. Gen. Mike Murray, County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette and Mayor of Hinesville James Thomas Jr., who brought greetings to those who were present at the event.
To all those who solicited items for the silent auction, and much thanks to Mrs. Faye Morris who led the event. To Mrs. Melinda Schneider who logged in all the booths, job well done and many thanks. Ms. Karen Bell, again an outstanding job on the entertainment and the quality you achieve. Thanks very much.
At this event, there was something for all entertainment, food, vendors and a 50/50 raffle. A corn-hole tournament was scheduled, but the weather would not cooperate. We raised $5,400 that will be donated to the Veterans Memorial Walk.
This was our second fundraiser to benefit the Veterans’ Memorial Walk. Last year the committee raised $6,000. The memorial will be erected on Bryant Commons. The Veterans Memorial will honor all five branches of the military. Again, I appreciate all who work to support the event to honor our activity duty military and our retired veterans. Thanks to all, and hope to see you next year.
David Anderson Sr., city councilman and
Hinesville Military Affairs Committee chairman
