The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce 13th annual Golf Classic will be April 27 at Cherokee Rose Country Club.

The Bradwell Institute Class of 1978 will kick off its 2018 reunion, Our History and Our Legacy: Celebrating a Decade, 1973-1983, with a charity golf tournament in memory of schoolmate Spencer Clark.

More than 200 professional athletes, sponsors and classmates are expected including ESPN Radio Live and special guest Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers. The tournament will be on Saturday, June 2, at the Westin Savannah Harbor and Golf Resort course.

“I’m so excited about our 40th class reunion,” Verdell Bacon Jones, 1978 homecoming queen, said. “It will be such a joy to reunite and reconnect with old friends.”

Bradwell was integrated in 1972 and a decade was included in the theme to mark the milestone.

“As we honor our history and legacy, our mission is to give back to our alma mater by making a commitment to our youth and paying it forward to keep the momentum going,” organizer/director Lelia Pray said.

A portion of the tournament a silent auction proceeds will be donated to the Bradwell and Liberty County High School golf programs.

Sponsors include ESPN, iHeartMedia, The George Rogers Foundation, Navy Federal Credit Union, Imprints Warehouse, Coastal Courier, Starbucks, McDonalds, Panera Bread, Verizon, Savannah Harley Davidson, Coca-Cola, Savannah International Trade and Convention Center, Lowe’s, The Heritage Bank and The Club of Savannah Harbor.

Clark graduated from Bradwell in 1976 and earned a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina, where he earned a BS in criminal justice. He worked for the Department of Justice as a deputy U.S. marshal and later founded SVC Consulting Services, which focused on events such as sporting, training and youth projects. He also started the MJM Foundation, a non-profit youth development organization in 2013 to fulfill the lack of child-care for low income families in the Midway area. He was inducted into Liberty County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
