Bradwell Institute’s boys track and field team won over seven strong regional teams at the 13th annual Plankenhorn Invitational in Brooklet.

Coach DeAndre Davis praised the team.

"The way they competed was something to watch," he said. "These young men continue to push and motivate each other. I am very proud of them."

The Tigers won with a total score of 122, followed by Wayne County 119, Statesboro 93, South Effingham 88, Benedictine 72, Liberty 50, and Effingham 38.

Individual standouts were Brandon Williams, Da’Shaun Coleman, Simon Steeel, Daruise Cooper.

Williams captured three medals and continues to step up his game weekly, his coach said, adding that his hard work in practice has paid off in meets throughout the season.

DeShaun Coleman was equally as impressive with four medals and, the coach said, senior leadership that motivates the team and enhances performances.

In the distance events, Steele and Cooper, who the coach called the heart and soul of the team, continue to drop times at every meet.

The Regional 2-AAAAAA championships will be Wednesday at Bradwell’s track complex. The meet begins at 8 a.m.

Bradwell’s boys tennis team qualified for the state tournament representing Region 2-AAAAAA by defeating Brunswick High School on April 9.

Coach Ken Scharnagl, who has coached the team for the past six seasons, said, "I am very proud of this group of players. They have worked very hard this season, and I’ve seen steady improvement from all my players. This is a special accomplishment this year for our team. Seven of our 10 boys are seniors, and several players have been on the team for three years. It’s a great way to finish."

On Tuesday, fourth seeded Bradwell will take on the No. 1 1-AAAAAA seed, Coffee County, in the first round of the tournament.

Players competing for the Tigers are Tjorn Hyatt, D’Anthony Russell, Jacob Solomon, Johnathan Watson, Aaron Dowers, Patrick Cochran, Kinley Glass, Adam Scharnagl, Dylan Smith and Clayton Gilroy.

Bradwell finished the regular season 10-7, and 3-3 in region play.
