The Long County High School football team completes summer camp today.  The weeklong program was at Smiley Elementary School.
The players stayed in the gymnasium, and began the week with registering, listening to motivational talks, and evaluations from the Blue Tide coaching staff.
Some of the evaluations, which took place on the first night of the camp, included agility drills and timed sprints.
As the week went on the players had two practices each day, with one being between 8:15 and 10:15 in the mornings, and the other between 5 and 7 p.m. During the day the players were given time to rest, hydrate, and replenish their systems.
According to Head Coach Kyle Wilson he did not get the number of players that he expected or hoped to come out for the week long test, but he did say that the players who did come out looked very good.
"The quality of the guys who have come out, has been great; if there is one thing which I can't complain about it is their effort", said Wilson.
The coach added, "We pretty much knew who most of our varsity players were going to be, going into camp, but it was still a matter of getting back in the groove".
But even still, the coach did say that he was looking for players to "step up" and fill some of the positions.
"Right now we are still looking for a left guard, and we are running our tailback by committee now; so we are still looking there", said the Head Coach.
According to the coach, the big change this year will be on the defensive side of the ball where the team is changing to a 3-5 set, with three down linemen and five linebackers.  One of the keys to this defense being successful is that the three down linemen be quick and efficient in tackling the ball carrier.
The Blue Tide will have their Blue/White Scrimmage Game next Friday on August 15th at 6:00 PM, followed on Thursday, the 21st, a scrimmage game against Glynn Academy at 7:00 PM.  Both games are in Ludowici.
The team's first regularly scheduled game will be on August 29th when the varsity takes on Johnson High School at 7:30 PM, in Ludowici.
