Spring sports at Bradwell Institute are kicking into to high gear with the varsity tennis teams and the baseball team beginning regional competition.
Tennis coach Ken Scharnagl’s teams faced a challenging Richmond Hill team on March 6, 2018 with the Lady Tigers losing 1-4, the boys team finished with the same 1-4 score.
In a two-hour match that proved to be the only win for the Tigers, Adam Scharnagl, playing No 1 singles, won in three sets 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) with a third set, tie-break-saving 7 match points to capture the win. With the win over Richmond Hill, Scharnagl extended his undefeated season to 7-0.
The second match of the week for Bradwell Tennis was March 8 against Brunswick High School. It ended with a split decision. The Tigers beat the regional powerhouse 4-1 while the Lady Tigers suffered a 5-0 shutout.
The BI Baseball team struggled through last week, finishing 0-3 against Savannah Country Day, Long County and Charlton County.
Coach Jeff Polk said “youth and inexperience are plaguing the team this year. We are working hard on getting back to being fundamentally sound and also knowing what to do in certain situations when they present themselves. We are working every day on our baseball IQ.”
Next up for the Tigers will be Savannah Country Day and Thursday vs Islands High School. Both games start at 5 p.m. and will be played at Bradwell.
Upcoming events for Bradwell include the fifth annual Tiger Track Meet today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
