Calvary blanks Panthers in sweep

The Calvary Day Cavaliers held the Liberty County Panthers scoreless in a three-game Region 3-AAA baseball sweep.

The Cavs won 12-0, 10-0 and 16-0 over the Panthers in the first region series of the season for Liberty County.

Calvary pitching held the Panthers to six hits over 14 total innings. Sam Renshaw was 7-for-9 with four RBIs in the series to lead the Cavs, who are 12-4 overall and 6-0 in the region. Dalton Kelley was 4-for-8 with five RBIs and Carter Hampton was 4-for-10 with four RBIs.

The Cavaliers finished with 33 hits in the series.

Bryce Coley was 2-for-5 with a double for the Panthers.

Liberty, 8-6 on the season, hosts Long County today in the second game of a three-game series. Game 3 is Friday at Long County.

Highlanders honored with all-state laurels
FPCA all state
Four members of the FPCA Highlanders state basketball championship team were named to the GIAA Class A all-state teams - Jaiden Thomas, Jordan Ortiz, Brandon Betton and Malachi Furlow. Coach Shane Smith was named coach of the year and Thomas was named player of the year.
After capturing the GIAA Class A boys state basketball championship, the First Preparatory Christian Highlanders also are dominating its postseason honors.
