Diamond Tide off to rocky start

The Long County baseball team got off to a rocky start this past week, dropped its first two games of the season.

Long County took the short trip to Jesup on Tuesday to take on always-tough Wayne County (1-0). The Blue Tide were never in this contest, as the Yellow Jackets beat them handily, 10-1.

On Friday, Tide fans got their first opportunity to see their team at home, as Tattnall County (2-1) came to town. Though this game was one that could have been won by either team, the Battle Creek Warriors squeaked out a 1-0 win, dropping Long County to 0-2.

On Saturday, Long County was back at home taking on Groves (0-1) in both schools’ first region games. The teams played a doubleheader, but results were not available in time for this story.

The Blue Tide will hit the road again Tuesday, traveling to Claxton for non-region action against the Tigers (1-1). The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
