Former Liberty County High School basketball player and current LaGrange College player Kymberli Payno recently was named the USA South Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 4, according to a news release from the LaGrange College’s website.
Payno, a true freshman post player, averaged 10 points and nine rebounds per game in the Panthers’ wins against USA South foes Methodist and Greensboro.
She had 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Methodist and eight points and seven rebounds against Greensboro.
For the season, she is averaging 5.8 points and five rebounds per game
She is the second Panther to earn the weekly honor, joining her teammate Lauren Johnson who took the honor for the week of Nov. 23.
The LaGrange women are 6-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play and play Meredith College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Raleigh, N.C., and at 1 p.m. Sunday against Mary Baldwin in Staunton City, Virginia.
