Former Liberty County High School track athlete Courtney Bennett took first place at Jacksonville State University Outdoor Championship meet this past weekend.

Bennett is in her senior year at JSU. According to the school’s athletic website, she took first place in the women’s shot put, clearing 14.06 meters. She also took first in the discus throw with a toss of 48.99 meters.

Earlier this year, the Hinesville native highlighted JSU’s indoor championship performance, taking the top spot on the podium in the shot put with a toss of 47-feet-11 1/2 inches.

Bennett became the first Gamecock field athlete to repeat in a championship event after also claiming the shot put title a season ago. She topped Tennessee State’s Mikayla Thompson’s distance by a more than a foot.
