Former Tiger runner coaches new track club

The District 9 Track Club, a local track club that participates in state, regional and national track, field and cross country competitions, is coached by former Bradwell Institute track standout Jamorris Hill.

Its indoor track and field season began last weekend. The team participated in the USA Track and Field Galleria Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The tournament was at the Birmingham Crossplex, the same venue as the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field championships. It attracted more than 1,000 athletes from 10 states, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Texas, Arkansas competing in 12 events in age groups from 6-18.

The meet was the first in a series of five that conclude with the USATF Indoor National Championship in Staten Island, New York.
Medals were awarded to the top three individual in each event in six age categories (8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18). Several local athletes won medals.

Ta’tyana Anderson had the standout performance of the day, besting 31 other runners in the 200 meter dash in the 8 and under age category.
The next meet in the series will be in Winston Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track on Jan. 2.
