Piedmont Academy didn’t realize the storm they faced Wednesday in the first round of the Georgia Independent School Association Class AA state playoffs. Much like the outside weather where the blistery winds blew down tree limbs and knocked out power, the Highlanders boys blew across the court, pounded the net and ran away with a 92-49 win.

“I thought we really played well,” Shane Smith said adding he was able to rest his starters the second half. “I think, right now we are playing our best basketball that we’ve played all year. Coming out of the region championship and into state tournament first round I think we are where we need to be.”

The first round game was held at Bradwell Institute.

Highlander Isaiah Scott drained in 26 points and a series of dunks to get the game started and the crowd on their feet.

Highlander George Mitchell had 21 points and Khalyn Weekley chipped in 12 and Trayvon Harris had 10 including two try shots for the double digit scorers.

The Highlander boys will now face LaGrange Academy Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

“This will be a little tougher they have some big kids and really haven’t seen that much height on one team,” Smith said. “But if we play our game we should be Ok.”

This game will also be played at the Bradwell Institute gym. The winner of this game will head into the final four at Mercer University next week.
