The FPCA track team had its first meet of the season March 29 at Bulloch Academy.

Coached by Shane Smith, the Highlanders have a small roster that is full of potential.

Senior Trayvon Harris won the 400-meter dash (52.3 seconds) and came in second in the 800-meter. Last year, Harris won the GISA AA state championship in both. He hopes to repeat. Last week he beat his state championship time of 52.44 in the 400.

George Mitchell took fourth in the 100-meter dash. Sensier Carnes won fifth in the 200-meter. In the 4x100 relay, the team (Harris, Mitchell, Carnes and Isiah Dickey) took second place, and third in the 4x400.

Mitchell also took third in the long jump. Lady Highlander Viviane Hinze won the 400-meter and finished second in the 200- and 100-meter.

While acknowledging his roster’s limits, the coach said he was pleased with the results.

"We can’t put up many points due to our small roster," he said. "I am happy they were able to place well in the events".

The Highlander track team will compete again on Friday at Richmond Hill where they will face off against Richmond Hill, Liberty and Bradwell. Next Wednesday, FPCA will travel to Robert Toombs Christian Academy for their first region meet.
