Georgia Southern coaches host summer athletics camps

STATESBORO -- The Georgia Southern athletic teams and coaching staffs have a busy summer full of camps for athletes of all ages.

Women’s basketball coach Rusty Cram and his staff will open the camp season with a day camp June 1-4, open to boys and girls ages 5-11. The staff will also host a team camp from June 7-10, with an individual camp from June 24-26.

Men’s basketball coach Charlton Young will also host basketball camps this summer, starting with a skills camp on Saturday, June 5, with a second skills camp scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 7. The skills camps are open only to high school boys and space is limited.

Young will also have a pair of day camps in June. The first will run from June 14-17, with the second going from June 21-24. Boys and girls ages 6-16 are invited to the day camps. There will also be a team camp June 11-13.

First-year football coach Jeff Monken will kick off his first camp at GSU with a lineman camp June 21-23, followed by a skills camp June 28-30 for high school players. The Georgia Southern staff will also host a Little Eagles camp on June 25 for children in first through eighth grade.

Eagles baseball coach Rodney Hennon will host a Kids Day Camp July 6-9. The camp is open to children ages 6-12. They will also offer an Eagle Overnight Camp for athletes between 11-18 years old July 15-18.

Softball coach Maggie Johnson and her staff will host a softball camp for athletes between the ages of 8 and 18 June 14-17.

Men’s soccer coach Kevin Kennedy will host three camps this summer. The first will run June 15-18, followed by a day camp July 12-16. Kennedy and his staff will wrap up the summer with a team and individual camp July 15-18.

Coach Ashley Hart and the women’s soccer program will host a team and individual camp July 15-18 for girls between the ages of 10 and 18.

Golf coach Larry Mays and his staff will host a golf camp for boys and girls ages 10-18 July 12-14.

The GSU strength and conditioning program will host a strength and speed camp for high school boys and girls July 24, and will run a speed school on Mondays and Thursdays from June 7-July 29. The speed school is open to both boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18.

Prices vary from sport to sport and camp to camp.

Campers are required to have a copy of their insurance card (both front and back), a physical examination form signed by physician within one year from start date of camp, and a signed release.
