The committee of the Henry “Hank” White Memorial Scholarship Fund has scheduled its 11th annual golf tournament for Aug. 1.

The first tee time will be at 9 a.m. at Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The entrance fee is $60 per player or $240 per team.
There will be an opportunity to win a car, sponsored by Hinesville Ford.

There also are sponsorship opportunities, ranging from hole sponsorships of $100, gold sponsors for $340 and major sponsors for $500.
Each year, the committee awards scholarships in honor of the late Deacon Henry “Hank” White, who served his community in many ways, including as state chaplain for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The fund has awarded more than $75,000 in scholarships since 2005.

Graduating seniors from Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School are eligible for scholarships. Eligible seniors attending other schools in Liberty County and undergraduate students may apply for the community scholarship.

The fund is a nonprofit organization that receives support from churches, businesses, private donors and the golf tournament.

Blue Tide to hold ‘Pig Drop’ bingo

The Long County High School football team will be hold its first Blue Tide “Pig Drop” Bingo Night on Friday, July 31, at Veterans Field, with a prize of $1,000.

The game has a pig penned up on a grid of 200 randomly painted and assigned squares. At 6 p.m., the pig will be released and whoever’s square it decides to “drop” on will win. If the pig’s droppings happen to be on a line between two squares, a line judge will determine which square is deemed the winner.

If the pig has not relieved itself by 10 p.m., the square the pig’s right hoof is in at the cutoff time will be declared the winner.
Proceeds will help buy meals, shirts and other equipment for the football team.

Tickets are $25, with the odds of winning being 200-1 with one-ticket. After the game, the team will have its Midnight Madness full-gear practice at 12:01 a.m.
