Lady Tigers assistant coach Dana King, who is also the JV girls head coach, said the only thing better than celebrating the varsity team’s region championship was celebrating the JV girls’ undefeated season.

"We finished the season 14-0," he said. "This is the second time that we accomplished that task. The first time we went 17-0 and this year we went 14-0."

The coach said he was proud of the squad’s accomplishment, especially since many of the girls had to learn fundamentals on the floor. Several of his players flourished.

"Symone May, Latisha Fraiser and Tiara Howard have all moved up to varsity and all had time on the floor, even in the region tournament," King said.

The coach said most of his players likely will move up to varsity next year.

"So I’m going to take the ninth-grade squad this summer, work them and drill them and teach them all the fundamentals and try and do it again next year," he said.

King said he started from scratch this year and will do the same next year.

The JV girls also won the championship trophies at the Donell Woods tournament and Armstrong Atlantic State University’s tournament.

"We have the potential to do it again next year," King said.

In three years, the coach’s record is 41-4.
