The Liberty County girls claimed the Region 3-AAA track championship in runaway fashion and the Panthers boys finished second.
The Lady Panthers posted 97.75 points, 40 points in front of runner-up Savannah Christian. The Liberty boys racked up 78 points, just 12 behind winner Johnson and 27 ahead of third-place Savannah Country Day.
The Lady Panthers dominated the field events, taking firsts in triple jump, discus, pole vault and shot put.
Zy’Kira Anderson claimed first place for Liberty in the triple jump at 34-2, and teammates Asia Lovejoy and Alasia Ducre finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Anderson also took third in the long jump.
Jaidyn Hayes led a sweep of the top three spots in the discus with a best of 109-45. She was followed by fellow Lady Panthers TyAsia Thomas and Anamia Gray. Freshman Kirah Smiley took the shot put with a best of 36-1.5. Hayes added a third-place finish in the shot put.
Riniya Roberts won the girls pole vault with a best of 8 feet even, and Isabella Melendez was second in the high jump.
On the track, Nya Telfair won the 100 hurdles at 17.58 seconds and the Liberty girls also won the 4x200 relay.
Melendez finished fifth in the 200 meters, Roselee Johnson was fifth in the 400, Jetasia Cox was third in the 3,200 and Cox and Jasmin Brown finished fifth and sixth in the 1,600.
Jamar Joseph swept the boys hurdles, taking the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.39 seconds and the 300 in 40.98, nearly a second and a half in front of his nearest competitor. The Liberty boys had a much closer finish in winning the 4x200 relay, hitting the line in 1:29.03. Johnson was second at 1:29.04, one-one hundredth of a second in second.
Markel Adside won the triple jump at 42-6, and teammate Paul Brown was second at 41-8.25. Isaac Vanduynhoven won the pole vault at 12 feet even, and Javon Brown was second at 10 feet.
The Liberty boys took second in the 4x100 at 42.67 seconds, and they were fourth in the 4x800 relay.
James Summersett finished second in the 100-meter dash at 11.37 seconds, and Keyshawn Hollis was third at 11.44. Summerset also placed second in the 200 with a time of 22.33 seconds. Hollis also earned second place in the long jump at 21 feet.
Devereaux Benoit was second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Xavier Lyons was third in the 400 at 52.21 seconds, Damien Perea was fourth in the 1,600 at 5:01.57 and Traevon Craighead was fifth in the 3,200.
