Lady Panthers loses to New Hampstead

Liberty County High School’s softball team fell, 3-2, Friday at New Hampstead in Savannah in a Region 3-AAAA game.

Just two weeks ago, Liberty handled the Lady Phoenix, 11-3, at home.

The game actually started Thursday and went into extra innings. However, Lady Panther head coach Jerome Standard said there was a question regarding the extra-inning procedures. The game was ended pending the review by the Georgia High School Association.

Once the ruling was clarified, the game was resumed at the start of the eighth inning and played from there.

Lady Panther Taylor Rine batted 3 for 5. Kathryn Carter was 2 for 3 with a run. Navia Telfair was 1 for 2 with a run. Diamond Richardson had an RBI and finished 1 for 5.

The Lady Panther mustered nine hits in the loss.

Carter notched 15 strikeouts overall in the game.

According to the region standings as posted on maxpreps.com, the Lady Panthers, 15-12 overall and 5-3 in the region, are in second place in the region behind Wayne County.

The Lady Panthers were scheduled to host Wayne on Tuesday for their senior-night game. On Thursday, Liberty County finishes the regular season by playing the Lady Yellow Jackets in Jesup.
