A few weeks ago, the Lady Tigers softball team gathered at the Western Sizzlin’ to enjoy a family style dinner and host their annual award banquet.
Plaques and team letters were awarded and a special honor was bestowed on the Lady Tigers’ only senior, pitcher Jena Alford. She was presented with a bouquet of flowers and presented the “Silver Slugger Award” for the year’s highest batting average, the “Lady Tiger Award” and was voted by the players as this year’s “Most Valuable Player.” Alford also made the 2007-08 All-region Team.
Brandi Huerd earned the “Golden Glove Award” for being the best defensive player of the year. Danielle Jacobs earned the “Coaches Award,” given by the coaches to the player who has demonstrated the most team dedication, motivation and self-discipline.
Tamika Lipscomb was this season’s “Most Improved Player Award” winner. Patrice Antalan, Destinee Brewer, Danielle Durham, Brandi, Danielle Jacobs, Tamika, Kelsey Rogers and Kaitlyn Stacy earned their school letters. Alford was awarded an additional bar for her letter.
The girls and their families were treated to a PowerPoint show set to music with snapshots of the girls, their families and the season’s highlights.
The junior varsity players also received awards. Suede Jones was presented the “Most Improved Player Award.” The coaches awarded Barbara Rego the “Lady Tiger Coaches Award” because she is willing to play anywhere, and has strong team dedication, motivation and self-discipline.
The team voted to award Taylor Reese with the “Lady Tiger Most Valuable Player Award.” Kim McGlothlin, Alford’s mom, was presented a bouquet of flowers and a framed Certificate of Appreciation thanking her for her many years of service and dedication to the Lady Tigers softball team.
McGlothlin has worked hundreds of hours in the concession stand during season play and during the recreation games at Bradwell Field in the spring. She has also served as the team scorekeeper and press box announcer.
