The Lady Panthers traveled to Richmond Hill on Thursday where they played to determine the third and fourth spots in Region 3-AAA. According to LCHS softball coach Jerome Standard, the squads kept the game tied at 2 until the bottom of the seventh inning when Richmond Hill added a run for the win, clinching the third-place slot.

"It was a bit of a heartbreaker," Standard said. "We played defense well but we couldn’t get the big hits and we left too many runners on base."

With the loss, it is likely the Panther girls will hold on to the fourth-place spot in the region as playoffs brackets develop. The Lady Panther host Wayne County next Wednesday and will play Richmond Hill again next Thursday, but it’s a pickup game, not a region match.

The Lady Panthers next region game will be at home against Washington County on Oct. 3. The squad’s seniors will be honored.

The ceremony will take place before the game which starts at 12:30 p.m.

Standard said there is a possibility the girls will remain in fourth even with a victory against the Lady Golden Hawks based on wins and losses for the season.

The fourth and fifth place teams in the region will play each other while the top teams earn a first round bye going into the playoffs.
