Liberty County boys and girls track and field teams finished first in the Region 2AAA Track and Field Championship

Liberty County High School boys and girls track team are the 2017 Region 2AAA track and field champions. Hosted at their rival school Bradwell Institute, the Panthers had close to a home field advantage against region opponents Pierce County, Appling County, Tattnall County, Brantley County, and Long County.

When all of the scores were tallied, the girls placed first with a commanding 205 points, 105 more than the second place finisher Tattnall County, and the boys edged out Pierce County by four points to take first place.

In the girls division, Kiara Edwards took first in the 400m dash, high jump and long jump contests. Alyisha Anderson took first in the triple jump, second in the 200m dash, and third in the 100m dash. Teammate Santana Robinson finished second in the 100m dash, Asiayna Achane took third in the 200m dash, and Jada Wilkins obtained third in the 400m dash.

In distance, Lillian Kuhl took second in the 1600m run and third in the 3200m run. In the hurdles, Shasanay Mims finished second in the 100m hurdles, and Dominique Roberts finished third in the 300m hurdles. Roberts also placed second in the long jump, and Dominique Rogers took third in the high jump. Navia Telfair and Brianea LeBlanc took first in the pole vault and discus throw respectively, Shikara Samuels finished second in the triple jump, and Javonna Johnson and Vivica Neal finished second and third in the shot put.

In the relays, the team of Asiayna Achane, Santana Robinson, Kiara Edwards, and Alyisha Anderson took first in the 4x100m relay, while the team of Shikara Samuels, Alexus Lawton, Shasanay Mims, and Navia Telfair finished third in the contest. Achane, Anderson, Edwards, and Dominique Roberts also took first in the 4x400m relay.

For the boys, Joshua Ferrell placed first in the 400m dash with teammate Tomaurio Jenkins placed third. Nolan Dickens took second in the 800m run with Roger Bizzard taking third. Devonte Roberts finished third in the 1600m run, while Keymiiah Bennett took second in the 110m hurdles, and Nick Miller took second in the 300m hurdles. Josiah Thompson took second in the pole vault, Marquis Bishop finished third in the triple jump, and Enrika Tolbert won the discus throw at first place.

In the relays, the team of Markel Dobbins, Kris Coleman, Jaalon Frazier, and Jaleel Gilbert finished second in the 4x100m, while the team of Roger Bizzard, Nolan Dickens, Chris Dillard, and Joshua Ferrell took second in the 4x400m.

With the Panthers taking care of their region, they now prepare for the GHSA 3A Sectional on April 29 in Brooklet, Ga.
