Liberty falls in slugfest against Fannin County

Despite a seventh-inning rally, Liberty County fell 11-7 to Fannin County in a baseball game played Saturday at Bryan County High School.
The Rebels had a 4-0 lead as the Panthers took their turn at bat in the bottom of the third inning.

Panther Jacari Roberts nailed a double with an RBI, and Liberty scored a run off a passed ball to the Rebels’ catcher. Liberty’s Dylan Gamble added a run in the fourth inning off an RBI single.
But the Rebels scored two in the fourth and added five runs in the top of the sixth inning to stretch their lead 11-3.

The Liberty defense stopped the Rebels from crossing home in the final inning. The Panthers used their last at bat to attempt a comeback.
Roberts nailed another double to knock in a run. Hunter Miller hit an RBI single, and Jacob Albertson had an RBI double. Another passed ball gave Liberty a fourth run, but the Rebels’ pitcher and defense closed out the inning before the Panthers could gain the edge.
Roberts ended the game going 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Parker Neely had seven total catches and six put-outs for Liberty. Neely also pitched 1 innings, walking one and giving up four hits and four runs. Roberts pitched 1 innings, walking one, giving up one hit and one run. Vincent Brunelli took the loss, pitching four innings. He struck out four, walked one, and gave up nine hits and six runs.

Liberty is 2-3 overall and was set to play Tuesday at Savannah Country Day. Results were not available by press time. The Panthers play at Bradwell at 6 p.m. Friday.
