Liberty track, soccer earn wins

Liberty County High School’s track and field team took first in both the girls and boy’s divisions in a meet Thursday at Southeast Bulloch High School, featuring Emanuel County Institute, HV Jenkins, Savannah Christian Prep, and Southeast Bulloch.

The girl’s scored 127 points, beating out the second place team, Savannah Christian Prep, by 54 points, while the boys varsity team scored 108 points, beating out the host school Southeast Bulloch by 23 points. Liberty is preparing for the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida.

Soccer: Liberty County soccer competed in two games during the week against Brantley County and Appling County. The girls lost to Brantley County in a 4-1 penalty kick shootout after tying the game 3-3 in regulation.

Taylor Ferdinand-Bessant, Ryann Alexander, Amanda Powell, and Sidney Wilkinson recorded goals and Alicia Griffith notched an assist.

The Panthers were able to prevail an their next contest, defeating Appling County 6-4.

The boys varsity team edged out a victory over Brantley 2-1 on Tuesday.

Senior Jared Elmore scored both goals for the Panthers in their win.

Liberty then defeated Appling County on Thursday with a 4-1 win. Both teams are now 6-5 in the regular season and will take on Long County and Tattnall County on the road next week.

Baseball: Liberty County’s baseball team lost 12-1 to Tattnall County and 14-3 to Savannah Country Day School this week. The Panthers (3-11) play at Long County on Tuesday, before returning home against Appling County on Friday.
