The Long County High School baseball team picked up its first win of the regular season Tuesday by beating  Groves High School, 14-1, in Ludowici.
Shane Deloach led Long County at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Luke Golden was 2-for-2 with a double, Shawn Mills was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jacob Turner was 1-for-2 with a double.
John Christianson got the win on the mound for the Tide, while the loss went to the Rebels’ David Harmon.
“That was a great win for us,” said Long County head coach Brian Thomas. “Groves is a proud team with a great coaching staff. Playing them always presents a great challenge.”
On Monday, the outcome wasn’t as good for the Ludowici team as the Tide were defeated by Charlton County, 13-1, in Folkston. Golden took the loss, but had another good night with his bat by going 2-for-3 with a double. Deloach and Cody Fleck each were 1-for-3 at the plate.
“I thought we fought Charlton all the way to the end,” Thomas said. “We will learn from this game and be better for it in the long run.”
On Thursday, Long County was in Pembroke taking on the Bryan County Redskins. Results for that game were unavailable by press time.  On Tuesday, the Blue Tide varsity team has its first Region 2-AA game when they take on the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets at 6 p.m. in Ludowici.
