After a week off, Georgia Southern returns to the gridiron at 6 p.m. Saturday by hosting Chattanooga.
The Eagles, ranked No. 15 in the latest Sports Network poll, are coming off a loss to Wofford on Sept. 21 in Spartanburg, S.C. GSU (2-1 overall, 0-1 in the Southern Conference) is averaging 542.3 yards of offense per game, including 407.7 yards on the ground, and 7.5 yards per play, according to gseagles.com. On defense, the Eagles are allowing 299.3 total yards a game and 4.2 yards per play. Georgia Southern has a 7-3 advantage in turnovers.
The Mocs (2-1), winners of two straight games, are putting up 429.7 total yards, 7.3 per play, and allowing 321.3, 6.2 per play, according to gomocs.com. Chattanooga has a two-headed rushing attack with Keon Williams (293 yards, four touchdowns) and Jacob Huesman (214 yards, two touchdowns). Huesman also averages 150.7 passing yards per game and has completed 65.1 percent of his passes to go with six TDs and two picks.
The Eagles game will be the Mocs’ Southern Conference opener.
