Former Liberty County High School standout Rion Brown hit a late 3-pointer and then drew a foul and hit three free throws to send the University of Miami into overtime against Virginia at the Bank United Center in Miami on Saturday.

The Hurricanes went on to beat Virginia, 70-68.

According to the Miami Herald, Brown hit the deep 3-pointer with 30 seconds left in regulation. That cut Virginia’s lead down to 55-53.

With 13 seconds left on the clock, Brown went up for another 3. This one missed, but the true freshman drew a foul.

The Herald reported Brown made the first two free throws before Virginia coach Tony Bennett called a time-out in an attempt to cool Brown’s shots.

But Brown’s final shot rolled around the rim briefly before sinking through the net.

"To be honest, I said, ‘Lord, let me hit these,’" Brown told the Herald. "Every time I hit one, I said, ‘Thank you, God.’ I got to the next one, ‘Thank you, God.’ That was the only thing going through my mind."

With the win the ’Canes are now 14-9 overall and 3-6 in the ACC. Miami is 10-2 at home this season and 8-4 all time against Virginia.
