The Highlander have dusted off their cleats and started the baseball season. Under the guidance of coach Bruce Green, the boys currently are 1-1 in Region 2-AA and 1-3 overall.
The boys started on the road March 6 at Burke Academy where they lost a region game, 7-5. Michael Lovelady had two hits. Matt Lormis had two hits and two RBIS. Carson Smith had two hits, one RBI. And Phillip Swindell had one RBI.
On March 13, the Highlanders hosted Appling Christian in a non-region game and lost, 11-10.
Keshan Patel had one RBI. Jake Lee had one hit and one RBI. And Carson Smith managed one hit and one RBI.
Saturday, the boys were back in region action, toppling Curtis Baptist, 22-2, in four innings. The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but rain delayed it until Saturday morning.
Senior Cameron Riley picked up the win, starting and going through three innings with six hits and two runs. Sophomore Ricky Gilliard closed the fourth with no hits and no runs, thanks to an unassisted double play by Riley, who was moved to first.
Dalton Smiley had three hits and two RBIs. Michael Lovelady scored two hits with three RBIs. Kyle Hill had one RBI. Richard Lovelady had a hit with an RBI. Keshan Patel had a hit with an RBI. James Phillips got a hit with two RBIs. Phillip Swindell had two hits with an RBI. Jake Lee had a hit with an RBI. Carson Smith had two hits, one RBI. Matt Lormis got two hits with an RBI. And Rob Abrams had one hit and an RBI.
On Saturday afternoon, after racing down to Stillmore, the boys were at Emanuel Academy where the umpires called the game because of rain. The game was called in the sixth with the final score, 7-4, reverted back to the fifth inning, giving Emanuel the win, even though FPCA had captured the lead in the sixth.
According to maxpreps.com, in the top of the sixth inning, FPCA had pulled ahead, 9-7, thanks to a grand slam by Michael Lovelady. He popped the round-tripper over the left field fence on a 2-2 count.
Lovelady started the game as pitcher and allowed three hits in two innings. But errors allowed five runs during that time. Lovelady’s brother Richard, relieved him and allowed only two hits and one run over the third and fourth innings. Sophomore Jake Lee took over in the fifth and allowed one hit and one earned run.
When the umpires called the game, FPCA had one out on Emanuel.
The boys were scheduled to host Frederica Academy Tuesday and will host Robert Toombs Christian Academy at 4 p.m. Friday at Joseph Miller Park.
