Last season, the First Presbyterian Christian Academy’s girls’ swim team earned eighth place in the Georgia Independent School Association State Championships. This season is off to a good start toward eclipsing that mark.
The Lady ’Landers claimed fifth place in their second meet of the season Dec. 1 at Mount de Sales.
Individually, Kathleen McGovern placed fourth in the 50-meter freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Julianna Hensley placed sixth in the 500 freestyle.
The varsity medley and freestyle relay teams — consisting of Hensley, Chandler Zabel, McGovern and Brittany Williams — placed eighth in those events.
Two junior varsity-team members placed in the top 10 of their events.
Maria McGovern placed second in the 50-meter freestyle and third in both the 100 freestyle and the 50 backstroke. Kaitlyn Hoover placed fourth in the 50 butterfly and eighth in the 50 breaststroke.
Four swimmers qualified for GISA state swim meet in individual events. Kathleen McGovern qualified in seven out of the eight varsity events. Hensley qualified in the 500 freestyle, while Maria McGovern qualified in all six JV events, and Kat Hoover qualified in the 50 butterfly.
FPCA coach Bridget McGovern also wanted to congratulate Kelcey Hoover for competing in her first swim meet, and Mariana Foster, Ji Su Cha and Diana Nikolovski for achieving personal-best times in their respective events.
