First Presbyterian Christian Academy improved to 18-3 overall and picked up the school’s first Region 2-AA win on Friday, beating Curtis Baptist on the road 71-36.

Jarquez Smith had 24 points for the Highlanders, who weren’t sure what to expect from the Crusaders.

"I didn’t know anything about them and I didn’t know what to expect," FPCA coach David Jones said. "And of course they came out and played hard."

But Jones’ seven man team played harder, controlling the game’s tempo and handling the ball well.

"We did pretty good," Jones said. "And we had a great defensive game."

Smith also had 13 rebounds in the game.

According to maxpreps.com, the Highlanders are averaging 70.5 points per game.

The team has scored 986 points to date.

Leading the scoring is senior DJ Felder, who has 299 points. Jordan Johnson has scored 276 and Jarquez Smith has 171.

First Presbyterian traveled to Edmund Burke Saturday for another Region 2-AA matchup.
