Lady Crusaders claim first place at opening tourney

The Faith Baptist Christian Academy volleyball team opened the season last week with a first-place finish at the Heritage Invitational at Lakewood Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Ga.
FBCA, which has only seven girls on the roster, battled through the double-elimination tournament by taking down Barrow County, 2-0, and Westminster Academy, 2-1 and 2-0, before topping Old Suwanee Christian School in the championship match.
The Lady Crusaders, who are coached Matthew Sellars, are made up of sophomore setter/hitter Maggi Brannen and outside hitters Samantha Brannen (junior) and Madison Greene (sophomore), blocker Taylor Dinkins (junior) and defensive players Lauren Smith (sophomore), Candice Cobb (freshman) and Peyton Davis (eighth grade).
The Lady Crusaders on Tuesday were scheduled to travel to Statesboro to play Bible Baptist Christian Academy. Results were unavailable at press time.
On Thursday, FBCA hosts Trinity Baptist at
4 p.m. in Ludowici.
The Lady Crusaders will hit the road again Friday, traveling to the Eagles Volleyball Classic in Hampton.
