Maxpreps.com writer and analyst Stephen Spiewak has named Liberty County High School freshman football player Richard LeCounte his favorite for the 2013 Freshman of the Year award
The list of contenders was announced last Thursday.
Spiewak called LeCounte the team’s most impressive defensive player. In seven games, LeCounte has tallied 73 total tackles, 46 of which were solo. He has five interceptions worth 154 yards, has defended four passes and caused three fumbles.
LeCounte has made an impact throughout the team, returning 11 kickoffs for 279 yards, rushing for 154 yards on 17 carries, making seven receptions for 110 yards and recording 889 all-purpose yards.
According to Panther football coach Kirk Warner, LeCounte has been selected for and will play in the 2014 Army All-American Freshman Game in January in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas.
LeCounte will be presented his All-American game jersey at 7 p.m.  Nov. 1, before kickoff of the Panthers’ last home game of the season against South Effingham.
