Liberty falls in region play

The Liberty County Lady Panthers played well and hit hard Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome South Effingham.
The Lady Mustangs won, 8-0, on their home field in the first game of the Region 3-AAAA playoffs.
“We played solid ball in the field only committing one error,” Lady Panther coach Jerome Standard said. “South Effingham earned six of their eight runs. We had three line drives that were caught. All I can say is that South Effingham played a great game.”
Lady Panther pitcher Kathryn Carter took the loss on the mound. She walked two, gave up a double and had one strikeout. The game was called by the fifth inning.
Liberty was scheduled to play Cross Creek on Thursday for third place in the region. The Lady Panthers will play next Wednesday in the state tournament against an opponent from Region 1-AAAA.
