The Walker Middle School cheerleading team won first place in its division at the Snowflake Classic Cheer and Dance Competition last week at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah.
This was the first time that the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade girls competed in a cheerleading competition.
Each girl received a medal, and the team brought home a trophy that will be displayed at the middle school. It was the first trophy the school has won in cheerleading.
WMS athletic director Dennis Pattison had plenty of praise for the girls after their first competition.
“I think it is awesome what they did,” he said. “They have worked so hard putting in some long hours. They’ve shown so much dedication, and for them to do this well in front of such a large crowd and it being their first competition — man, it’s amazing.
“We’re proud of them,” the athletic director continued. “They are going to continue competing and succeeding.”
The Wildcats cheerleading team is coached by Cindy Davis.
