The Long County High School football team opened its season with on Friday, defeating Lanier County, 16-12, in Lakeland.
After a late start due to weather, the Blue Tide jumped out to an 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs stormed back to score but were unable to convert the 2-point conversion, making the score 8-6.
The score remained the same through three quarters, until Long County hit pay dirt again in the fourth quarter to go up, 16-6.
Lanier County scored late in the game, but the Blue Tide held on.
