Tennessee guard and Midway native Jordan McRae is a candidate for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate basketball, according to UTsports.com.
The award honors a NCAA Division I senior athlete who also has “notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character and competition,” the website said.
McRae is one of 30 candidates. The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through this season. A nationwide system of media, coaches and fans will do the voting.
Last season, McRae averaged 19.2 points per game in Southeastern Conference play, the website said. Last week, McRae was named to the preseason All-SEC first team. The Volunteers’ season opener is Nov. 12 vs. Xavier in Cincinnati.
