Panthers place first in second home meet

Liberty County High School’s track team took another first place finish in its second home meet of the season on Thursday.
The Panthers hosted Wayne County and Richmond Hill. The Lady Panthers earned first with a total of 189 points in 15 events. The Panther boys placed first, scoring 184 points.
Lady Panther Courtney Bennett once again topped the girls in the discus throw with a 114-foot, 4-inch toss. Briannae Gadson placed third, clearing 76 feet. Bennett and Gadson also placed first and third in the shot put with distances of 37 feet, 1 inch and 33 feet, 4 inches, respectively.
Destiny Hall and Brandi Alvin swept the triple jump for the Lady Panthers. Hall leapt 27 feet, 6 inches and Alvin cleared 25 feet, 8 inches. In the long jump, LaShai Richardson placed first at 17 feet, 1 inch and Alvin took second at 13 feet, 7 inches.
Richardson also took first in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches. LaTiana Dingle placed second for the Lady Panthers at 4 feet, 4 inches.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Lady Panther Jasmine Duerson placed third, clocking in at 55.89 seconds. And in the 100-meter dash, Diamond Gadson, Nakyus Dean and Jaelyn James swept the top three spots, timing in at 12.8 seconds each. Nahtae Thompson placed first in the 100-meter hurdles at 17.2 seconds.
The Lady Panthers 4x100 relay team placed first at 50.4 seconds. Ajiah Lewis and Tekeyla Sadler placed first and third, respectively, in the 400-meter dash. Dean and Richardson captured first and second in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.5 and 27.8 seconds, respectively. The 4x400 relay team placed second at 4:31.
For the Panther boys, Kharn Ellison took third in the discus throw, tossing 100, feet 9 inches. Shadrach Thornton leapt 41 feet, 10 inches to take first in the triple jump. Anthony Dabson placed third, leaping 39 feet 7.5 inches. Thornton and Dabson took first and second in the long jump. Thorton jumped 21 feet, 1 inch and Dabson was half an inch behind. Jeremy Caldwell-Fabergas placed second for the Panthers in the high jump at 5 feet 10 inches.
Rashawn Harris gave the Panthers a third in the 300-meter hurdles at 45.37 seconds. The Liberty boys 4x100 relay teams placed first and second at 43.3 and 45.2 seconds, respectively. Panther Willis Bowman placed second in the 110-meter hurdles at 17.1 seconds.
Paris Boles, Thornton and Jovan Williams swept one, two and three in the 100=meter dash at 11.2, 11.3 and 11.4 seconds, respectively. Dabson took the top spot in the 400-meter dash at 51.7 and Thornton took first in the 200-meter dash at 23 seconds. The Panthers 4X400 relay team took third place, finishing in 3:50.
